Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a specialism in older adult’s mental health has arisen within Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust at the established and respected Barnet Hospital liaison psychiatry team. The team have close links with the sister liaison service at North Middlesex University Hospital. There is also senior occupational therapy support within the trust and a strong network of occupational therapy colleagues to link with.

 The CORE-24, PLAN accredited liaison psychiatry service provides:

  • A dedicated multi-disciplinary team (psychiatry, nursing, social work, psychology, associate mental health workers and administrative staff) providing a comprehensive range of mental health assessment and interventions across in-patient wards and the Emergency Department at Barnet Hospital.
  • A focus on all adults over 18 and all mental health conditions.
  • Operational 24hours a day, 7 days a week, for people aged 18yrs and over.
  • Deliver relevant mental health assessment, interventions and training.

The role will involve:

  • The assessment of working age and older adults attending the Accident and Emergency Department, and in-patients on the wards with mental health problems; the focus will be on older adults and ward patients.
  • To support clinical staff in Barnet Hospital working with patients with mental health problems.
  • Developing and promoting the occupational therapy role within the team/service.
  • Developing and promoting the liaison psychiatry service.
  • Delivering training on mental health topics specific to occupational therapy and/or older adults.
  • Supervision and support of liaison psychiatry colleagues, and clinical supervision of therapy colleagues in mental health services.

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Substantial clinical experience working with older adults with mental health conditions
  • Occupational Therapy qualification and relevant professional registration
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with acute trust colleagues
  • An in-depth understanding of mental health services, assessments and interventions for a range of mental health conditions.
  • An excellent communicator and team player
