Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust is responsible for providing mental health services for people of all ages across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, as well as providing some specialist services across the whole of North London and beyond. Since January 2011, the Trust also provides adult and children’s community health services in Enfield, following the transfer of Enfield Community Services from NHS Enfield.

Please note - Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust will only accept on-line application forms.

Job overview

This is a substantive position which has become available due to the retirement of a longstanding consultant and is with one of four community teams within the older adult service in Barnet. Our community consultants also work within the Barnet Memory Service and will have an active role in supporting the service and its ongoing MSNAP accreditation.

In line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the Community Mental Health Framework laid out by NHS England the Trust is taking part in a large transformation programme across North Central London looking to integrate the care delivered for mental health problems more closely based around place.  Within Barnet we have a well-established Programme Board which is rapidly building the vision for how these new services will operate. We will be looking for you to partner and lead on this transformation.

Main duties of the job

It is important to note that the team as described within the job description document will be subject to change through this Transformation and we will be looking for you to be closely involved in helping shape what comes next.

The Consultant will provide leadership and supervision for a multidisciplinary community mental health team (CMHT) for older people and will work closely with Barnet Memory Service (BMS), providing clinical input to that service.

The Consultant will have responsibility for the diagnostic assessment and treatment of older adult psychiatric patients from the designated catchment area referred to and accepted by the service. Outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits in the community will constitute the majority of the direct clinical care provided by the Consultant.
