Deputy Ward Manager (Beacon Centre) - Band 6

Are you wanting to make a difference in the life of a young person?

The Beacon Centre is a specialist 16 bedded inpatient general adolescent unit in Edgware, treating young people between the ages of 13 up to 18 with acute and severe forms of mental illness. It is a nationally commissioned service, although the unit prioritises young people from the North Central London area.  There is a strong emphasis on co-production in the unit, as well as a programme of continuous quality improvement. The unit is rated Good by the CQC and is part of the Specialist Services Division within Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Deputy Ward Manager at band 6 to join the nursing team at The Beacon Centre. There are excellent training and leadership opportunities available with a structured development programme, as well as a range of clinical specialist training such as DBT and QI training. The successful candidate should be self-aware and resilient, with a desire to provide quality services that enable and empower young people.

Are you an RMN/RNLD with a strong interest in working with young people and meet the following minimum criteria?

  • Significant experience working as a band 5 nurse in an inpatient mental health setting
  • Skills and experience to support the Ward Manager in carrying out managerial duties, supervision, appraisals and team leadership
  • Coordinate service user assessments and implementation of care plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of managing behaviours seen in general adolescent units, such as self-harm, aggression, violence
  • Work as a role model in leadership and management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve and influence
  • Able to work under pressure while remaining calm and maintaining quality
  • Have a flexible and creative approach to problem solving
  • Able to complete PMVA mandatory training
