Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) provides healthcare services locally, regionally and nationally. Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

A unique opportunity has arisen within Enfield Community Therapy Services Integrated Falls and Bone Health Service,  who are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic Bone Health and Fracture Liaison practitioner, with excellent communication skills, to join our team.

 

Main duties of the job

The role includes monitoring the pathways of patients at risk of fracture or of further fracture and carrying out multi-factorial assessments. We work with patients to assess and identify their individual falls risks and agree interventions that are going to reduce their risk of falls and improve the health and well-being of our local population.  We are looking for a  B7 but are in position to be able to offer a B6 development opportunity to a suitably experienced candidate with a view to B7 progression.

Person specification

Education and qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Health Care Professional either with the HPC or NMC.
  • Relevant post graduate training in bone health/prevention of fragility fractures and falls
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post grad education at Masters Level or equivalent
  • Supplementary/independent prescribing or relevant pharmacological training ( with focus on bone health)

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive and advanced specialist knowledge of bone health, osteoporosis, risk of fractures/ falls, and best practice interventions and strategies to prevent them
  • Solid understanding of clinical governance/ risk management frameworks
  • Excellent understanding of the DH guidance on falls and fractures and any other relevant national or professional guidance

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to process, manage and communicate complex information sensitively and clearly
  • Ability to assess and plan individual care needs in partnership with patients/ their carers
  • Ability to manage complex clinical problems and situations

Personal qualities and other

Essential criteria
  • Fluent in written and spoken English including the ability to generate letters and reports of a high calibre
  • Ability to work on own initiative showing clinical leadership skills
  • Ability to work proactively with other relevant services and across MDTs
  • Car driver, with access to a car for work purposes with current UK Licences
Desirable criteria
  • Fluent in any other local languages
