Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

North London Forensic Service is a Specialist Service located at Chase Farm site. The Service provides care and treatment for patients that are suffering with a mental illness, and are detained under the Mental Health Act and of the Ministry of Justice. The post holder will be part of a strong security team who work together to support all non-clinical and clinical aspects within the Forensic Service. The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a team. They will undertake routine duties following departmental guidelines, but must be able to use initiative when necessary.

Main duties of the job

The Successful applicant will join a 15 strong Security team within the specialist service line. We are seeking a dynamic, well organised, and proactive security worker. You will need working knowledge of visitor management booking systems, other I.T equipment knowledge. You should possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to use initiative to resolve basic queries relating to the service, and be a true team player. To have the ability to work in a challenging environment where clients present with distressing demanding behaviours.

A reasonable understanding of Physical Security, access control, CCTV monitoring, have an understanding of Security Awareness, and the principles that are involved., and a security back ground would be of benefit

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of education GCSE Level

Previous experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of prioritising and managing workload with minimal supervision
  • Experience of admin reception duties and basic keyboard skills are required.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of having mental health patient contact

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment where clients present with distressing / Demanding behaviors
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve basic queries relating to the service
  • Excellent organisational skills and be able to work under pressure
Desirable criteria
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft and other computer software including Word, Excel, Access and other databases
  • Ability to cope with working in a secure/locked environment
