Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) provides healthcare services locally, regionally and nationally. We serve a population of 1.2 million, employ more than 3,300 staff, and operate from over 20 main sites in the community. As a multiple award winning Trust we provide mental health services for young people, adults and older people, and have a full range of child and adult community health services in Enfield. Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

This is an exciting secondment opportunity for a full time Learning Disability Occupational Therapist to work in an Integrated Adult Learning Disabilities Service.

Main duties of the job

This post is for you if:

  • You are flexible and innovative in delivering a client centred service across health and social care.
  • You enjoy working with Multi-Disciplinary Team colleagues in an integrated service. The successful applicant will be based in the community learning disability therapies service.

This post provides the opportunity to take on a broad caseload as part of the Occupational Therapy Team while developing . You will be working in a friendly team alongside highly experienced therapists who will be available to provide support . The successful applicant will be given opportunities to develop their own interests and specialism for CPD. This full-time post is based in our new premises at Enfield Highway Carnegie Building, Integrated Learning Disabilities Service. Person specification

Education and qualification

Essential criteria
  • Occupational Therapy approved training at post-graduate level
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate training in clinical speciality areas appropriate to working with people with learning disabilities E.G relationships and sex education

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of fieldwork education placements or paid work with people with learning disabilities who may also have, mental health and/or challenging behavior
  • Understanding of the Occupational Therapy process and associated risks to working in a community setting
  • Understanding of the role of occupational therapy within learning disabilities services
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of paid work in the NHS
  • Experience of running group work with people with a learning disabilities
  • Experience of working clinically as an occupational therapist

Skill and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate clinical reasoning skills and ability to analyse professional & ethical issues
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentation and training skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and to work in partnership with individuals and groups including with families and paid carers
Desirable criteria
  • Group work skills
  • Evidence of technology skills to produce accessible documents for people with learning disabilities
  • Critical Appraisal skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
