Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) provides healthcare services locally, regionally and nationally. Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic well motivated individual with excellent communication skills and passion for service improvement to join our Patient Experience Team in the role of Engagement and Involvement Facilitator. This would be an ideal opportunity for an individual develop their skills and knowledge in Patient Experience and service user/carer involvement.

As a member of the Trust’s Patient Experience Team you will work closely with the Patient Experience Manager & Involvement and Engagement lead Advisor to provide comprehensive information, advice and guidance to service users, carers and visitors to the Trust. Your role will include collating feedback from service users, carers and visitors and working with people who use our services and trust employees to identify ways of improving patient experience.

You will also support the Patient Experience Team across the inpatient wards, attending community meetings and working with teams to ensure that they are responding appropriately to patient feedback. A significant part of your role will be to also manage to Trust Involvement register database to ensure all activity is logged.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Trust’s Patient Experience Team you will work closely with the Patient Experience Manager & Involvement and Engagement lead Advisor to provide comprehensive information, advice and guidance to service users, carers and visitors to the Trust.

Your role will include collating feedback from service users, carers and visitors and working with people who use our services and trust employees to identify ways of improving patient experience. This is a trust wide role working across the five divisions. In this role you will be actively working with operational managers to support with improving services using 
feedback and involvement and you will contribute to Patient Experience projects. 

The post holder will advise staff on ways to involve patients and families at service level ensuring that they maximise the use of members willing to engage in service improvement and other Trust activity. The post holder will provide best practice guidance to divisions on service user/parent involvement and measuring patient experience, supporting staff to 
translate their results into meaningful practical actions to generate improvements in patient experience.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Good general standard of education.
  • Computer literacy.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of equality and diversity.
  • Knowledge of how to escalate effectively.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Patient Experience.
  • Experience of producing reports and analysing data.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Good IT Skills (proficient in use of MS Office applications inc Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Able to use the Internet and Mail Merge).
  • Excellent written verbal, communication skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working with patients and the public.
  • Experience of using a range of communication skills to negotiate and influence.
