Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) provides healthcare services locally, regionally and nationally. Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

The Integrated Learning Disabilities Service is a high performing health and social care service for adults with learning disabilities. The service also works with young people under 18 to support effective transition to adult life. The Therapies Manager has overall responsibility for Occupational and Art Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy.

The postholder will also be a key member of the Integrated Learning Disabilities Service management team taking a lead on designated areas as appropriate The Therapies Manager provides clinical leadership to your specialist professional team whilst taking on a small caseload of complex clients. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high performing service that promotes independence and maximises people’s choice and control whilst effectively managing risk. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Relevant professional qualification in OT, Art Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, or Physiotherapy, with at least 5 years post graduate experience. 
  • Experience of managing/supervising staff 
  • An in-depth knowledge of the national policy and legislative framework for health & social care services to people with learning disabilities including those with MH problems and/or Autism 
  • Experience of service development and maintaining quality improvements in services for people with learning disabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships at all levels across the Trust and Council. · Great leadership skills
  •  A commitment to integrated working

Qualification and education

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Relevant professional qualification in OT, Art Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, or Physiotherapy.
  • Current professional registration

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • A knowledge and understanding of the range of health and social care services to people with learning disabilities including the care provider market, acute and primary care services, mental health services and specialist tertiary provision.
  • Specialist knowledge and applications of therapeutic assessments and inventions relevant to people with learning disabilities.
  • A knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the MDT in working with people with learning disabilities.
  • Experience of developing, empowering and supporting staff.
  • Extensive experience of postgraduate clinical practice in learning disabilities for a minimum of 5 years with 2 year’s experience in a management/supervisory role.
  • Experience of service development and maintaining quality improvements in services for people with learning disabilities.

  • An ability to demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and the provision of expert clinical skills.
  • Expert application of practice in the appropriate clinical speciality.

  • Ability to adapt and use appropriate language and communications methods to all situations.
