Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate clinician who has experience in mental health assessment, risk management and managing caseload of patient with mental illness, complex needs and neurodiversity.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a pivotal role within the team, which consists of a staff group mainly comprising of psychiatrist, an LD nurse and an assistant psychologist. The team is well-established within the cluster of clinical services. The team forms part of the integrated clinical services departments, who meet regularly to jointly discuss complex cases, referrals, formulations and service development

Person specification

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (Part 3 of NMC register) and evidence of post-basic study
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a secure or criminal justice setting preferable

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to undertake risk assessments using a standardised or semi-structured risk assessment method
  • Ability to plan and organise a range of complex clinical activities which require judgements to be made on competing factors.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act.
  • Able to apply social work or nursing

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously
  • IT skills must be able to document onto electronic patient notes systems
  • Use email programmes

Personal qualities and other requirements

Essential criteria
  • Car driver for business use must have access to vehicle as this post is across sites
  • Ability to manage conflict
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations and communicate effectively with patients
  • Be able to maintain a positive “can do” attitude and a positive attitude to change
