Barnet Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust, providing both mental health and community services, is an organisation that is going places!

Our values and quality improvement are at the heart of everything we do, please consider joining us.

SENIOR SYSTEMIC AND FAMILY PSYCHOTHERAPIST – Haringey Acute Care; Inpatient and Crisis, Resolution and Home Treatment Team - Band 8a

0.6 WTE Permanent Appointment

We are seeking applications from a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist with a specialist interest in further developing systemic thinking and input within the Haringey Crisis recovery and Home Treatment Team (HCRHTT) and inpatient care. This will involve working with adults from the age of 18 to 65 who are in hospital, or in crisis or who are stepping back into the community and need daily additional support. You will be part of the acute psychological therapies team who provide psychological interventions to the inpatient wards and HCRHTT.

The service is currently moving towards the Open Dialogue model, an innovative way of working, utilising service user peers and the client’s own social network. We are taking part in a major research project into Open Dialogue.

The HCRHTT works with people who are experiencing a crisis or are recovering from an acute illness episode, and aims to support their recovery and help them avoid becoming long term users of mental health services, through the provision of recovery focused care. You will have a commitment to working with service users in crisis and with severe mental health problems.

Preferably, you will also have previous experience of working with psychosis, and an interest in working in an Open Dialogue.

An aptitude for working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and the ability to work creatively and innovatively alongside other colleagues is essential. You will have a caseload of complex clients and access to clinical systemic supervision. In developing your team role, you will support others by developing their competences in the application of systemic and psychological ways of working with service users, their carers and families. Experience in teaching and systemic consultation, in order to support the development of colleagues within the team, would be an advantage.

The Trust recognises the need for the development of psychological therapies across the workforce and has developed a Trust-wide training programme providing foundation level in CBT and systemic / family interventions. Psychological Therapists have access to further training and Continuing Professional Development opportunities, both within and outside the Trust. We have an active Open Dialogue Special Interest Group and a specialist Trauma in Psychosis supervision group.

There are a number of specialist services and highly experienced supervisors in the Trust, and there will be opportunities for the successful applicant to develop their skills in working with other client groups, according to their interests, by offering therapy to a client from other services while accessing specialist supervision and support. The service has close links with local Universities and regularly offers placements for trainees. Links with Universities also offer a number of other opportunities: the successful applicant can gain experience in developing teaching, consultation and supervisory skills. They can develop their skills in the teaching and training of others, both at a local and University level. They can pursue their research interests, through working with clinical academics and supervising student research projects. Barnet, Enfield and Haringey is a welcoming place to work, where staff put into practice their values of treating service users with dignity, compassion and respect. We are a forward looking Trust that adopts a recovery and enablement approach, and works to implement new models of working such as Open Dialogue.
