Staff Nurse - Band 5

Are you a motivated staff nurse (RMN) who is committed to providing the best possible health care in a challenging and busy environment where your clinical skills and experience; will make a significant contribution to improving the clinical outcomes for a complex patient population. We are looking for high calibre, motivated and enthusiastic staff nurse to provide leadership in our Inpatient Service within our Offender Care Service at HMP Pentonville with particular focus to Physical Health Clients on the unit.

The clinical work is varied, and with a population that is changing almost daily you need to be well organized, motivated and willing to work with high levels of complexity. Still interested then we look forward to hearing from you? The Inpatients Unit is a 22 bedded healthcare ward at HMP Pentonville. The unit has two wards providing both mental and physical healthcare to offenders who cannot be appropriately cared for in the prison’s ordinary wings.

The unit usually works with an average of 18 patients with mental health needs and 4 with primary physical care problems (this varies with presenting needs). You will need a good understanding of both the needs and challenges facing patients with multiple needs in a secure setting.

The role will mostly involve in leading a multi-disciplinary team of RMN, healthcare assistants and prison officers support worker in physical health. Your role will be more focused around the physical health needs clients. Developing the many opportunities for multi-disciplinary working with primary care, prison officers and support services is a key task of the role. Our ambition is to provide prisoners with a good standard of health similar to that available in external NHS facilities This is a very exciting and interesting role in a challenging clinical environment.

In order to do this job successfully you will need to have acute physical health experience and be familiar with the challenges of providing care in a secure environment. You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership, organisational and management skills, be able to work in a busy demanding environment with competing pressures. In return the Trust will offer you access to high quality training and development.
