Health & Wellbeing Practitioner - Band 6
North London Forensic Service is rated OUTSTANDING by the CQC and we have partly achieved this rating by recruiting outstanding staff and offering them unrivalled career and training opportunities.
We are currently recruiting for staff into our prison healthcare services based in south London within HMP Brixton. This a Category C resettlement prison with an operational capacity of approximately 800 spaces.
The mental health team within the prison is multidisciplinary in nature and consists of nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists and works with those prisoners with both primary and secondary care mental health needs. As part of this team we are looking to provide a mental health nurse to work as part of the Health & Wellbeing Team providing assessments, brief interventions and group work to referred men.
Although it would be beneficial, you do not need to have had previous experience in working in a prison setting as a thorough local induction and training package will be provided. What you will also need is a professional qualification in mental health or nursing and at least 1 years’ experience at a Band 5 level; most importantly is for you to have both the desire and ability to work compassionately with complex men who are often in acute distress.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a calm disposition, resilience and the ability to negotiate and work in partnership with other agencies and the prison is also required.
Free use of gymnasium and staff subsidised restaurant are available on site for staff to use.
The service operates 7 days per week 9.00am until 5.00pm. For an informal discussion and/or visit please contact John Martins Team Leader on 0208–588-6125 or email at email@example.com.
Interview Date: TBC
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
