Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) provides healthcare services locally, regionally and nationally. We serve a population of 1.2 million, employ more than 3,300 staff, and operate from over 20 main sites in the community. As a multiple award winning Trust we provide mental health services for young people, adults and older people, and have a full range of child and adult community health services in Enfield. Our North London Forensic Service treats and cares for people in the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorders services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services, and mental health liaison services at Barnet Hospital and the North Middlesex University Hospital.

Job overview

These are new roles created to help us deliver our plans to transform our community mental health services, as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.  The transformation of our community mental health services will lead to truly integrated health and social care for adults in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey who have serious mental illness.

Our transformation plans are supported by £25m in funding and will mean the roll-out over the next three years of multi-disciplinary teams of experts working within the new Primary Care Networks and offering wraparound, holistic care to our service users and wider community.  Our aim is to support the whole person as they live with, or recover from, mental illness and to offer them support with other challenges they may face, such as debt, relationship problems, housing, education or training.  We will also focus resources on reaching those who currently face obstacles in getting the help they need.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Assessment Service Team Leader and Band 7s and deputise in their absence. Be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team, supervise, teach and instruct junior Workers in assessing and planning patient care.

Working autonomously, the post holder will be required to participate in receiving and screening referrals to the Assessment Service, carrying out assessments to HoNoS clustering, signposting to the appropriate services, either in the Trust, or externally as appropriate and providing advice and feedback to referrers

Eduation and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN
  • Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice or teaching equivalent

Professional Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 18 months post qualification experience.
  • Experience of working within a specialist area of mental health nursing.
  • Ability and experience in dealing with developing and implementing systems that support clinical excellence

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of the Mental Health Act to be able to advise other staff in particular cases as required.
  • Ability to implement Policies and Procedures, leading their implementation where appropriate.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrable effective clinical assessment skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and others workload to balance clinical and other service priorities.
