Mental Health Nurse - Band 5

Employer: Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust

Department: Forensics

Location: HMP Wormwood Scrubs

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust is responsible for providing mental health services for people of all ages across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, as well as providing some specialist services across the whole of North London and beyond. Since January 2011, the Trust also provides adult and children’s community health services in Enfield, following the transfer of Enfield Community Services from NHS Enfield.  Please note - Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust will only accept on-line application forms.

North London Forensic Service (NLFS) has been rated as OUTSTANDING again by the Care Quality Commission, and part of this is our dedicated and skilled staff team who have a number of development opportunities open to them across a varied number of innovative services within the criminal justice pathway.

We are currently looking for a Band 5 mental health nurse for our inpatient team within HMP Wormwood Scrubs. This is a Category B local remand male prison in west London with an operational capacity of approximately 1200 spaces. Although it would be beneficial, previous prison experience is not a mandatory requirement as we provide a full training and induction package. What is of paramount importance is a genuine desire to work compassionately and creatively with service users who are often in crisis and acutely distressed.

Mental health services within the prison are multidisciplinary in nature, encompassing nursing, psychology, and therapies staff and work within a stepped model of care. The inpatient team works with a wide variety of service users who are often complex and have both mental health and physical health problems. This is an exciting and varied role in a challenging and fast paced environment. You will play an integral in supporting the team in delivering a high standard of care to service users within the wider prison.

The successful candidate will have to complete successful employment checks and prison vetting.
