Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Band 7
This is an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the North London Forensic Service to run a speech and language therapy service within a London prison.
The successful applicant will spend their time within the in-reach mental health team based at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
Previous experience of working within a criminal justice setting and within adult mental health services is essential together with a willingness to embrace the challenges of working within an environment with a diverse and disadvantaged client group. Strong engagement skills are important, as is the ability to work well with other staff – both the MDT and wider prison staff.
The main focus of the work will be upon assessment & interventions for individuals with communication difficulties as well as the production of accessible information and the delivery of communication training for non-speech and language therapy colleagues. The successful candidate will also be expected to take a key role improving the identification and support of people on the autistic spectrum and will therefore need to demonstrate experience in this area. There may also be some involvement with dysphagia referrals and inputting to the dysphagia pathway for the NLFS.
The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a range of mental health professionals. They will receive regular high-level supervision and will have the regular opportunity to link in with the small speech and language therapy team in the wider service.
