Occupational Therapy Assistant - Band 3

Based predominantly at HMP Wormwood Scrubs

Band 3 AFC + Inner London Weighting

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within the Therapies team at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.  The post is based in the day-care department where the team are developing a diverse and interesting service for prisoners with high level support needs, including those with mental health issues, learning disabilities, trauma related disorders and physical health needs.  There will be opportunity to provide input into a varied group programme, and to support keyworkers in working with service users in relation to their individual well-being needs.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will be part of a growing therapies team within the prison comprised of Occupational Therapy and Psychology staff.   As part of the specialist prison services within the wider Barnet Enfield and Haringey mental health trust. There will be opportunity to develop and maintain links with other Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants across the service.  This includes those working within prisons, young offender units and secure hospital services.  Within the prison the team are developing important links with primary care and substance misuse services that provide guidance and training in such areas.

The post holder will receive regular individual supervision to support their practice, as well as opportunities to engage in reflective practice groups with the wider healthcare team at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.  The team has a strong emphasis on support and training.  Regular training opportunities are provided from services within the Prison, and the team also benefit from the provision of external training by specialists in relevant areas.

The successful candidate will be joining a newly formed and enthusiastic team working towards improving activity and increasing well-being to a population that can be both challenging and highly rewarding to work with.
